Implicaciones funcionales y clínicas de la pequeña vía aérea en el asma bronquial.

Resumen


El asma es una enfermedad respiratoria con una prevalencia muy elevada en todo el mundo, producida como consecuencia del edema, inflamación y secreción de moco en las vías aéreas pulmonares. Estos cambios fisiopatológicos se producen de manera homogénea en todo el árbol bronquial, afectando también a las vías aéreas de menos de 2 mm, lo que se llama pequeña vía aérea. Este artículo resume las últimas evidencias científicas en este prometedor campo de investigación, así como la descripción de las técnicas diagnósticas utilizadas para reconocer la afectación en este área pulmonar.
